A 31-amino acid peptide, results from the proteolytic cleavage of the C-terminus of beta-amyloid precursor protein (APP) at Asp739-Ala740 by caspases. Reported to induce apoptosis and may be involved in the neuronal death associated with Alzheimer's disease, either via amplifying caspase activation or by the selective increase in Abeta 42 production.
