Apolipoprotein E, (Apo E) is present in normal plasma at concentrations of 50 ug/ml. Apo E serves as a ligand for LDL receptors, where it participates in the transport and redistribution of cholesterol and other lipids. Other functions include immunoregulation, cell growth, and differentiation. Thought to be involved in tissue repair.
